The Mamas & the Papas were a defining voice, or set of voices, of the pop and folk-rock of the 1960s. Their infectious melodies meandered through stories of gentle California sunshine, while being a part of the movement of social and political counterculture. In 1967, their record ‘Monday Monday’ earned a Grammy award, and in 1998 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Through their striking vocal harmonies, John Phillips, Cass Elliot, Michelle Phillips, and Denny Doherty’s mark on music is a unique and rich one.

Lake Street Drive

Lake Street Drive has a jazzy retro-pop sound
and intricately constructed harmonies that make their
care-free and joyous songs a euphoric listen, especially
for those with an ear for an exciting interval.
Some tracks to get started are ‘Hypotheticals’, and ‘Good Kisser’.

BAILEN

BAILEN’s folk-rock ballads feature guitar driven melodies, Canyon-esque harmonies, and tasteful use of a steel pedal. The group tops it off with lyrics that hit where it hurts, like on ‘Rose Leaves’ and ‘Going On a Feeling’, off their 2019 record Thrilled To Be Here.

Push Puppets

A new band out of Chicago, Push Puppets delivers catchy, nostalgic power-pop ballads on their new record Allegory Grey. The beautiful and bittersweet songwriting from frontman Eric Specht, leaves you wanting more and more. Sitting in on the recording sessions for their newest record at Gravity Studios, I fell in love with ‘Sometimes the Buds Never Flower’ and ‘There’s No One Else Like Lynette.’
